Airports are bustling with passengers and filled with noise, whilst flight announcements echo one after another. The extensive use of marble flooring and glass curtain walls causes sound waves to bounce constantly; without appropriate treatment, this can easily lead to a chaotic acoustic environment, turning the interior of the airport into a noisy space where public address announcements cannot be heard clearly. This not only hinders the transmission of information but also causes discomfort to the human auditory system. At this point, the suspended ceiling plays a crucial role in sound absorption, controlling reverberation time and preventing ‘echoes’. However, relying solely on perforated ceiling panels makes it difficult to achieve the desired acoustic effect; therefore, modern large-scale airports often require a layer of acoustic nonwoven to be affixed directly to the rear of the perforated ceiling panels, thereby significantly enhancing the ceiling’s sound-absorbing performance.

Sound absorption ceiling

The ceiling is constructed using perforated panels, with Silence Tech acoustic nonwoven bonded to the rear of the panels. The standard perforation rate is 10–30 per cent, which absorbs mid- to high-frequency sound waves and reduces echoes. In areas with particularly high noise levels, such as places where people gather, you may wish to use products such as glass wool, sound-absorbing fiber wool or acoustic foam in conjunction with the Silence Tech acoustic nonwoven.
